Markdown Syntax

Markdown is a way to style text on the web. You control the display of the document; formating words as bold or italic, adding images, and creating lists are just a few of the things we can do with Markdown.

It doesn’t do anything fancy like change the font size, color, or type — just the essentials, using keyboard symbols you already know, like # or * .

FENCED CODE BLOCKS

Markdown coverts text with four leading spaces into a code block; with GFM you can wrap your code with to create a code block without the leading spaces.

Add an optional language identifier and your code will get syntax highlighting.

function test() {
    console.log('look ma’, no spaces');
}
.gatsby-remark-code-title {
    margin-bottom: -0.6rem;
    padding: 0.5em 1em;
    font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono WT', 'Andale Mono', 'Lucida Console',
        'Lucida Sans Typewriter', 'DejaVu Sans Mono',
        'Bitstream Vera Sans Mono', 'Liberation Mono', 'Nimbus Mono L', Monaco,
        'Courier New', Courier, monospace;

    background-color: black;
    color: white;
    z-index: 0;

    border-top-left-radius: 0.3em;
    border-top-right-radius: 0.3em;
}

TABLE

Tables aren't part of the core Markdown spec, but they are part of GFM and Markdown Here supports them.

Markdown | Less | Pretty
--- | --- | ---
*Still* | `renders` | **nicely**
1 | 2 | 3

123

There must be at least 3 dashes separating each header cell. The outer pipes (|) are optional, and you don't need to make the raw Markdown line up prettily. You can also use inline Markdown.
